PUMP IT UP!

Next month, November 19, Club 56 will meet at PUMP-IT-UP: The Inflatable Party Zone!! Cost is $10 and a permission form is required.

As next month’s service project, we will be collecting stuffed stockings for foster children through Covenant Community Services. CCS provides love & care for abused & neglected children in Kern County. Club 56 is working to bring some Christmas cheer to these children. If you’d like to help, please purchase and stuff a stocking with age-appropriate items for a child according to the chart below and bring it to Club 56 in November. This month we celebrate the 6th graders moving on into Junior High and the 4th graders moving into Club 56!

6th Graders: Don't miss your last chance to attend Club 56! We will honor you in a special way!

4th Graders: This is your first chance to experience Club 56! Come and get your free tshirt!

Each class needs to be represented so we can battle it out in our 3rd Annual WAR OF THE AGES!!! Will the 4th, 5th, or 6th graders win??

Did you know there is another Christian School in Bakersfield a lot like St. John's Lutheran School? It's called Olive Knolls Christian School, and they recently had a fire that wiped out 13 of their classrooms. That's like losing the entire St. John's Education Building, plus the 6th grade portables! Yikes!
This month at Club 56 we want to share hope with the 5th & 6th grade classes at Olive Knolls. We will be making a video to encourage them and invite them to our next Club 56 meeting. We will also be collecting some supplies for them that they lost in the fire.
And of course, there will be crazy games and yummy snacks, as usual! Hope to see you there!

Club 56 is going to PUMP IT UP!

Have you heard of Pump It Up? It's an "inflatable party zone" here in Bakersfield! What does that mean, you ask? It means we are going to a place that is filled with gigantic bounce-houses, obstacle courses, slides, and more! We're going to have a blast bouncing off the walls at Pump It Up this month!

Parents need to drop Club 56ers off at Pump It Up (2841 Unicorn Rd). The fun starts a LITTLE EARLIER THAN USUAL at 1:45 p.m. and we'll wrap up at 3:45 p.m.

Bring $10 and a donation for the Jamison Center (new or gently used children's clothes, shoes, toys, or games).

Great Commission Challenge!

We have a challenge for all of you Club 56ers!

You may have heard of something called "The Great Commission". It's just a fancy way of describing the challenge that Jesus gave His followers in Matthew 29:19.

Jesus says:

"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,"

Jesus wants us to tell others about Him! An easy way to begin doing this is to invite a friend to Club 56. So, we are challenging you to bring as many friends as you can! Whoever brings the most friends this year will receive a special prize.

This month we are SPLATTERPAINTING! Hope to see you there!

We're Meeting Through the Summer!

Club 56 has decided NOT to break for the summer! We know that a lot of families are gone on weekends during the summer, so we are going to move Club 56 to a THURSDAY afternoon for the months of June and July.

This month is "Step-Up Saturday"! This means a few things:

1. It's the last Club 56 until the fall, when school starts up again

2. It will be the 6th graders last meeting with us!

3. WE WILL WELCOME THE NEW 5TH GRADE CLASS!

Soooooo 4th graders, this is your special day! We hope a whole slew of you will join us for the fun and craziness that is Club 56.

We will host our 2nd Annual "War of the Ages", where 4th, 5th, and 6th graders battle it out to see who can get the MESSIEST! Check out photos from the last War of the Ages over there -------->

Hey Club 56ers! This month is very special...because Club 56 turns a whopping ONE YEAR OLD!

We will celebrate at the next meeting (January 16) with a movie, candy, & popcorn. Be sure to bring your pillows...we will show the movie on the two screens in the Kidz Connection Building. This is a great opportunity to invite your friends!

Which movie are we watching? Well...you'll just have to come and find out :)

Chrismons Are Coming!

Hey Club 56ers! I can't wait till the next Club 56 meeting! You know, getting together just once a month is a bummer! It seems like forever between Club 56 meetings. That's why going to the new Club 56 Bible study--The Edge--is a GREAT way to get your Club 56 fix between monthly meetings. The Edge meets every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and it's WAY fun! Just ask the kids who have been there!

The next Club 56 meeting is November 21! We are going to be celebrating the Christmas season a little early by making "Chrismons". Chrismons are symbolic ornaments that our church will use to decorate our Christmas trees. You might even get one to take home!! This service project should be a TON of fun!

NEW! Club 56 Bible Study!

Hey Club 56ers! Something exciting is happening...Club 56 doesn't just meet every month, we meet every week! Join us in the Kidz Connection Auditorium every Sunday morning at 9:30 AM for the new Club 56 Bible Study, called The Edge. You will first meet as a large group with other grades for music and worship, but then you will separate for your Bible Study in your very own classroom. The Edge teaches you about God and his word through games, skits, hands-on creative projects, and take-home comics.

This new Bible Study began just last week. There were tons of 5th and 6th graders there having a blast. See you next week!!

6th Grade Pizza Lunch

This week we spotlight Amanda. Amanda attends St. John's Lutheran School. She is 11 years old! She enjoys playing volleyball, singing, and dancing. She loves to eat gnocci pasta with tomato sauce. MMMMM! Did you know that she has a heart for animals and wants to become a vet someday? Way to go Amanda!! Amanda thinks that Club 56 is "SO much fun! Rock on!" We will if you're there, Amanda!!

OK, I just have to give a quick re-cap of the First Annual War of the Ages! Fourth Graders, Fifth Graders, and Sixth Graders all warred against each other using Silly String, Water Balloons, and Whipped Cream. CRAZY!!

I have a complaint, though...WHERE WERE ALL THE FIFTH GRADERS?? Only TWO fifth graders were there to defend their corner of the yard with a can of silly string in each hand. What's the deal? Are you guys out there reading this??

Club 56er of the Week: CHRISTIAN!

This week's spotlighted Club 56er is CHRISTIAN! Christian has attended Club 56 faithfully ever since it began! Not only that, but his parents have been extremely helpful and involved in Club 56. Christian enjoys playing the guitar and playing basketball. Something that you might not know about him is that he's very athletic! Christian is a big fan of pizza. (Aren't we all?) What does he think about Club 56? "It's awesome!" Thanks Christian! We think YOU are awesome!!

Club 56er of the Week: Heeju!

This week Heeju is our featured Club 56er! Heeju has never missed a Club 56 event! WHOA! She thinks that Club 56 is really fun. (I do too!) Heeju is 12 years old. One of her hobbies is singing (ME TOO! Wow Heeju we both like singing AND we both think Club 56 is fun! Who knew we had so much in common?! Haha!) Heeju's favorite food is rice. Under "tell us something interesting about yourself" she put "I'm a girl." Well Heeju, I think that is very interesting! :) Thanks for being such a faithful Club 56er Heeju! We are praying for you this week!

STEP-UP SATURDAY!

It's that time of the year! School is almost out and you will soon be considered one grade older! What does that mean for Club 56? It means that those who will be entering 5th Grade in the fall (current 4th graders) are invited to STEP-UP SATURDAY on May 23! Current Club 56ers, let's make sure to give the new members a warm (and maybe messy?) Club 56 welcome!!

As for you 6th graders who are going to be in 7th grade this fall, we will send you off into Student Ministry with a big celebration! Here at St. John's, the "youth group" starts at 7th grade, so this summer you will get to go on all the cool Jr. High trips we have planned! Both Dan and I are part of St. John's Student Ministry, so we will be with you every step of the way for all the crazy fun!

If you are going to be entering 7th grade in the fall, there is a special meeting for you and your parents on Sunday, May 17, at 5:00pm in the Family Life Center. We will tell you all about Student Ministry and what to expect, and then you can stay for our youth worship service (FUEL) at 6:30pm! There's always pizza afterwards so we hope to see you there!

Club 56er of the Week: RYAN!

Please welcome this week's Club 56er, RYAN! Ryan is 11 years old. He enjoys playing video games (I'm addicted to Mario Kart myself...) Ryan's favorite food is pizza. Want to know something interesting about Ryan? He was born in HAWAII!! (Lucky...I've never been!) He tells me that he goes back to Hawaii pretty frequently, too. WOW! Also, he didn't put this on his card, but I happen to know that Ryan is a very good actor. Ryan, when you get into Jr. High, will you be on my drama team?! :) He thinks that Club 56 "is cool". We are blessed that Ryan is pretty much a regular at Club 56 because he always makes it more fun!

This week's spotlighted Club 56er is....JACLYN! Jaclyn is 11 years old. She loves to bowl. I'm not sure if this is real bowling or Wii bowling...I'll have to ask her ;) Did you know that she loves PASTA? (Good choice Jaclyn, Dan and I love pasta too). My favorite memory of Jaclyn is when she fell asleep on her huge fish pillow during Movie Night. HAHAHAHA!!! :) She thinks that Club 56 is fun. We are so glad that you think so Jaclyn!! Question: Who do the people that are ordering flowers make the check out to?

Answer: Make the check out to St. John's Lutheran Church. All the proceeds will go into the Club 56 account. St. John's will then make one check out to Flower Power to order all the flowers, and one check out to the Curtis Hartman Family. The extra we will save to do something fun at Club 56! Hope this makes sense, let me know if you or your parents have any more questions!

Does everyone know Sarah? Sarah attended Club 56 for the first time last week, and we were thrilled to have her! Sarah is 11 years old and attends St. John's Lutheran School. She enjoys playing softball because she's very good at it! Her favorite food is hamburgers...YUM! She thinks Club 56 is a lot of fun. Everyone remember to pray especially for Sarah this week! Question about movie Night

Question: "Can we bring older or younger siblings to the movie night?"

Answer: Club 56 is for 5th and 6th graders, so please only bring friends that are in 5th and 6th grade! We know a lot of you have siblings, but if we start letting kids come that are not in 5th or 6th grade, we would have to change our name...and our t-shirts...to something like Club 12,345,678! Thanks for understanding!

INVITE A FRIEND FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!

A lot of you asked me if you could invite a friend on Saturday. The answer is YES! In fact, you can invite a friend AT ANY TIME to Club 56...it's not just for St. John's kids...it's for ANY 5th and 6th grader!

You also asked if you had to bring the ticket you got in the mail to get into the movie. The answer is NO, you don't...I just thought the ticket would be a fun reminder for you to come. Actually, give your ticket to a friend to remind THEM to come!

Remember to bring your pillows or something comfortable to sit on! We have 8 or 9 beanbag chairs, but feel free to bring your own if you have one!

Speaking of FRIENDS...it looks like you can become a "follower" of this blog, and then at that point you can become friends with other followers. Christian and Heeju have done it and I'm both of their "friends"...also, I think once you become a follower you can post a comment and it will show your name instead of "Annonymous".

LOOK WHAT WE DID!

Didn't the painting turn out GREAT?? And it was super fun to make too!! I have to tell you guys...we kept it in the Large Conference Room and people that came the next day to church LOVED it. "Who did this?" they kept asking...CLUB 56!!!

Miss Christy saw it this morning and she's so exicted to hang it in the new Children's Ministry Suite! You guys did an awesome job!!

I have a question for you so be sure and respond...would you like to do it again? We are thinking about making another one on April 18th at the next Club 56 meeting! Why? So we can SELL it at the Spring fund-raiser for St. John's! What do you think, should we do it?

All About Flower Power!

At our most recent Club 56 meeting, we handing out fund-raising kits for "Flower Power", our current service project. **If you did not receive a "Flower Power" kit, they will be available at the movie night, or just let me know that you need one!!

Part of the money we raise will help a family in need: the Hartman Family. Curtis Hartman, at just 34 years old, is facing the ending stages of his terminal lung disease, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. His only option of survival is a double lung transplant, so let's all pray for God to provide new lungs soon! Curtis has been unable to work for a while since he's been sick, so Club 56 is helping out the family of five by providing a little extra money through the fundraiser. Please remember to keep Curtis, his wife Mary, and their children Kennedy, Brock, and Gavin in your prayers! For more information about the Hartman Family, click here.

The other part of the money we raise can go towards doing something really fun off-campus! Keep watching the blog for a vote on what we should do with the extra money.

Also, the two Club 56ers that sell the most flowers will receive special prizes! The first place winner will receive a $75 gift certificate and the second place winner will receive a $25 gift certificate! Be sure and post how much money you have collected so far!!

Once we collect your orders on APRIL 18th, we will place the order and everything will arrive here at the church. We will then schedule a pick-up day for you (or the people who ordered from you) to come pick up the flowers. Here is additional information:
